Solstice Dispatch Service 2019

Happy 2019 Yuletide Greetings to you all!

After a year of joys, celebrations, tragedies, and heartbreak, we are gathering again in this Yuletide moment. Therefore...

We officially declare that the Solstice Dispatch Service is once again active for the 2019 - 2020 season. As the days darken and the fires burn bright, the community comes together once again to share, to celebrate, and to sustain.  In the warm light of family and friendship, we invite you to write letters to the Solstice Kings, both Holly and Oak.

As stated last year, while we commit to read every letter we receive, but we cannot guarantee that we will reply to every letter by Yule. We wish to savor your letters and do not wish to be rushed in their reply, so while we do commit to reply to them, you may only receive your reply much later. Please be patient with us as we try to reply to your correspondence as quickly as we can.

What to include with your letters

Write your letters, create your beauty, place it in the envelopes, and prepare your postage. Please clearly include the RETURN ADDRESS and to whom to sent the letter so that we can ensure your reply.

The Solstice Dispatch Service postal address has not changed, so send your letters to:

Dispatch Service Offline

It is with a heavy heart that we must inform you all that there will be no Solstice Dispatch Service this year. Life has become difficult in a way that makes running the service impossible (don't worry, everyone is safe). We will keep the blog and the FB page alive, and hopefully next year, we can re-instate the service.

Our sincere thanks to everyone who has written us letters in the past two years and apologies to everyone who did not receive replies as promised. We will try to be better in the coming year.

In the meantime, we wish you all a happy, healthy, safe, and prosperous Winter Solstice.

Much love and brightest blessings,

Oak King/Holly King

The New Reign Begins!

As you may have guessed, my brother and I have met on the fields of honor. It was a hard-won fight, but my brother submitted to me in the end. He is off to enjoy his well-earned rest while I take my place on the throne.

Like many others, the unseasonably warm weather has played havoc with my sinuses and I've been suffering from a cold these past few days. I'm working hard to finish writing the replies to the many letters we've received, so please don't think I've forgotten you! You reply is coming soon.

Merry Christmas everyone! As this Yuletide holiday progresses, stay safe and appreciate the company of friends and family. If you know of anyone who may be alone this holiday, please extend your hospitality to them. At this time of year, some people need to be reminded that they are not without friends.

Share Your Light

We have received the first batch of letters that have included heartfelt writings, artwork, and even small gifts. We really appreciate that people have taken the time to write to us and are so inspired!

We know that people are struggling (spiritually, financially, emotionally, etc), but they also filled with a remarkable amount of hope for a brighter future.

At this time of year, the darkness comes early and sometimes, it seems to have no ending. We invite you to embrace the quiet of the darker days, take the time to tune-out that which drags you down, and share your inner light with others in need. When you share your light, you end up with more light.

The Solstice Kings wish to bless everyone with the happiest of tidings in the coming holiday season. Share your light, comfort each other through the darkness.

Write to the Oak King, Honor the Holly King

We've been receiving inquiries from lots of people asking to whom they should address their letters. There are a few ways you can craft your letter and we will ensure to honor them all!

  • Write to the Oak King as he enters his new six-month reign of ever-increasing light.
  • Write to the Holly King to honor the end of his reign as he prepares to enjoy his well-earned rest.
We've also been asked if people can write to Odin, the Yule Fairies, and many others. Our Yuletide elves are ready to resort and redirect your Yuletide mail to wherever you need it to go.

Happy Yule everyone!

SDS Launches Today

We are officially launching the Solstice Dispatch Service today! Write a letter to the Oak King and tell him of your hopes and dreams for the coming year!

As the Winter Solstice arrives, the Holly King feels the weight of the world upon his shoulders. He is weak, tired, and ready for sleep. He knows his brother the Oak King stirs from his sleep: the candles burn just a bit brighter, the sunlight stays just a bit longer. It is time for a change.

The Oak King struggles to shake the sleep from his eyes. He has been sleeping soundly these past few months, but now he needs to know what is happening while he was away. For him to reign efficiently and well, he needs to know what you know, hear what you need, and feel what you dream.

Therefore, he is putting out a call for letters! Write to the Oak King and tell him of your hopes, dreams, and projects that you want to start or continue in the new year. Get it all down on paper and send it out for the Gods to hear!

The Oak/Holly Kings are a couple of luddites, and although they have this website, they do not accept letters as emails or any other kind of digital correspondance. If you want them to read your letter, you must write them a letter and send it by post.

You can send your correspondance to the Oak King at the following address. Be sure to include your own name and return address so that the Oak King can send back his reply.

The Postal Elves will be keeping this website going with any news, updates, and calls for missing socks!
